more interesting facts

Pos Malaysia’s COUNTER SERVICES moved to Amcorp Mall. ‘Serahan Tingkap’ services still remain at Jalan Sultan.
Pos Malaysia is still POS. But the counter lady was so nice I couldn’t get angry. 😛

I’m officially broke. Money gone into the recent LYP splurge, the recent ‘belanja makans’, and a 7800 GS.

Going to try out Intervideo’s rendition of a Home Theater.

some interesting facts

The Pos Malaysia Jalan Sultan Mail Depot has shifted its ‘Tingkap’ operations to 2nd floor of the Amcorp Mall.
The Pos Malaysia Jalan Sultan Mail Depot closes on the first Saturday of each month.
Pos Malaysia is truly a *POS* for not mentioning these details on their delivery cards.

The DDNS function on version 5 of the Linksys WRT54G router comes to you broken by default. To fix it, check Linksys Easy Answers. This site was on a short hiatus due to this (and I didn’t want to restart my connection and lose valuable torrent progress).

FF7 graphics look awful on Radeon-based cards. The current patches available are just not good enough. There might be newer versions on Qhimm, but his forums are down at the moment. Here and here are some other FF7 patches. I’m currently using the FF7Music 1.51 util to override the lame midis with PSF versions. Also replaced some tracks with Advent Children versions, in MP3 format. 😀

proton’s finest

Went on a site visit to Proton yesterday morning. We were to go and see how they’ve setup their HR system landscape. Turns out they’re not faring as well as we were. But a lot of issues that they experience are simiilar to ours.

At least we got ourselves a main plant tour. And meet their young female HR executives. 😀

At night, I ended up watching MI and MI:II to possibly fill up any storyline gaps before I watch MI:III tomorrow. Didn’t even touch WoW or FF7. I was also looking at a few HTPC software like Cyberlink’s PowerCinema and the open-source Media Portal. It’s just so hard to browse a movie collection displayed in a small window on a 1920×1200 screen from across the room. The MediaLife software that came with the mouse is just too simple.

more than meets the eye

I finally got my tax forms sent in last Saturday night, despite last minute use of Liquid Paper. There’s always some quirk when filling up the forms, even though it’s the same thing each year.

Earlier that day, I had to work in the morning, hence ruining the holiday mood. A ‘quick’ Worms’ World Party LAN game kept me at the office for a bit, and then I rushed home to get my mom to her dental appointment. My mom had taken a break from an event in the Bursa Malaysia building behind Menara Maybank, so we didn’t have much time. Since I was going to drive her back to town anyway, I thought I’d swing by LYP and get a few things:-

– a Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router,
– a Linksys 802.11g USB or PCI Adapter, and
– maybe a soundcard

My mom had already paid for parking at Bursa, so it was only logical that we leave the car there. Finding the place while navigating the traffic jams took a while, as we were having problems pinpointing the location itself but we managed to get there not too late while finally learning some of the finer points of Raja Chulan and Pudu.

So from there I walked. Along Jalan Pudu, which is still heavily congested due to the buses and cars and taxis stopped along the roadside. Doing so helped me get a better understanding of the area’s layout. Before then I thought I’d run into Jalan Pasar before hitting Bukit Bintang. 😛

At LYP I took my time. Stood in a very long line to the Maybank ATM. Slowly looked through Cycom’s price list to see if I wanted anything else. A lil’ chit chat. I then ended up with:

– a Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router,
– a Linksys WMP54G PCI Adapter,
– a cordless Logitech MediaPlay mouse,
– a 1GB Pendrive,
– a Logitech Headset, and
– 25 8x Mitsubishi DVD-Rs.

Quite a bit more than I expected. 😛 Then a quick dash through the rain to Sungei Wang for some PS2 games and a very late lunch. Then another hour of mulling around waiting for the rain to stop before I could get back to Bursa.

The only toys I can say I enjoy was the Wi-Fi upgrade and the wireless mouse/remote. I definitely can’t call it a frugal purchase ’cause it wasn’t. I could’ve made do with an old wireless mouse I had, but the rubber was kinda sticky. I could’ve made do with the current 802.11b that I had, but it’s… well… 11Mbps. The faster 54Mbps lets me watch movies and stuff I downloaded straight from my server instead of having to copy them to my PC every time. The mouse lets me navigate the media player from the comfort of my bed. 😀

The other purchases just happened, and they’ll be useful sooner or later. Except the headset, which was a very bad buy. Wanted to use it for WoW raids and maybe BF2, but it’s not super comfortable as I expected. I should’ve just waited for an opportunity to go overseas and import a wireless Plantronics headset. :

Gotta get a Y stereo mini-plug so that I can just leave the headset plugged in.

So that was Saturday. Didn’t do much on Sunday ‘cept run through the entire Season 1 of Transformers. With the PC being more entertainment-center-like, the download queue has increased to include stuff like Lost Season 1, Transformers Season 2-3, and House M.D. Season 2. But with so many other things to do on the PC like WoW, I’ve only been watching in windows instead of full screen so that I can still do something with the PC. Only time I’ve put full screen to use was when I was lazy to do anything else or prefer to tuck myself under my comforter. 🙂

Later that night, Ayin was supposed to return from Lumut, so I stayed up and had coffee with the gang at Starbucks. Due to some delays, she would arrive only at 1 and my mom won’t let me drive down to Port Klang alone. Fortunately Fish volunteered to be shotgun. Andy offered to join the convoy too, but we were concerned abt the road conditions there. Almost hit the temporary construction dividers twice that night due to poor lighting and signage. So much for ‘Selangor Maju’.

After that the mocha had still retained its effect, so I volunteered for a full Sunken Temple run. Didn’t realise it would take so long, and by 5.30am I was already zoning out. But it wouldn’t be nice to pull out of an instance run midway, so I sucked it in and managed to last up to 8.30. Fortunately, it was a very good run, and I got a lot out of it. 🙂 Hooray for rare item drops!
