My Suhoor Selection 2025

Before we knew it, we’re already in day 11 of Ramadan. What have you been having for suhoor?

Some people prefer a complete, elaborate meal, while others opt for simpler, lighter options. For me, I prefer food that is easy to eat, something I can mindlessly shovel into my mouth and munch on while struggling to keep my eyes open. At the same time, the meal also has to be nutritious and filling enough to get me through the day. Of course, 3 pieces of dates and a glass of water are a must for suhoor.

Here are my picks for suhoor this year, for those looking for easy-to-eat, simple to prepare/reheat options.

1
Chinese Fried Rice
Malaysian-style Yong Chow fried rice, more commonly called 'Chinese fried rice' in local stalls. Make it heartier by adding chicken and shrimp or fishcakes, and don't forget to complete it with veggies like carrots and long beans. This is one of the easiest fried rice recipes to make.

Jalapeno Cheddar Pierogi
Polish dumplings filled with cheddar and onion mashed potatoes, with a bit of heat from jalapenos. This one is quite labor intensive, but make then freeze a big batch of these and pop them into your air fryer for a quick, filling suhoor.
