c’mon nokia~

I’m starting to wonder when Nokia will stop messing around and start making phones that are more sensible in terms of features and stylish in terms of looks. I mean, just look at Sony Ericsson’s K850i! It’s gorgeous, with a 5mp camera to boot! ~drool~ So far the only Nokia phone I’m eyeing is the 6300, and even that’s halfhearted.

automating facebook

So Facebook has been taking up lots of time, especially with all its funny (and fun) applications. One app that’s been taking most of my time is Warbook, which is a simple but addictive web-based MMORPG game that’s linked to Facebook.

One of the spells that you can cast in Warbook is Alchemy, which basically spends 20 mana to produce a good amount of gold. A normal player gains 6 mana each hour, so that means you can cast Alchemy every 4 hours. Problem is, my mana cap is low at 60, and if I leave the game for too long I’ll end up with lots of wasted mana. It’s not like WoW where you can actually drink and stuff to regain mana; you actually have to wait to get it replenished.

That’s when I found this Automating Facebook Interaction using Ruby and WWW::Mechanize article, showing an example of how you can automate posting to someone’s wall with random quotes. Since then, I’ve extended the example to cast Alchemy for me. Put it together with cron, and I have it running every 4 hours. ^o^

Read up a bit more on Ruby’s syntax, and now I have daily runs to use up my Vampires attack quota, and do 20 random attacks on Vampires vs. Werewolves. Yeah, they’re silly apps, but me like RPG styles stuff. 😛

Still a bunch of quirks to work out though. Facebook connections hasn’t been so good lately, and there’ve been disconnects while the scripts are running. I’ll probably get to that sometime, but not so soon.

Yep, raids are off for me till Raya. There’s just so many things to do before hand. All the cleaning, the eating, the dating, and yet I haven’t really had the chance to maximise the latter activities.

Just within these 2 days, I’ve had to turn down 4 outings: Thursday dinner w/ Fai-chan, Thursday dinner w/ colleagues, Friday dinner w/ a vendor, and Friday salsa with the YKLS’ians. But tis all for a good reason, staying home and keeping my mom company (i.e. obey her cleaning schedule).

Come to think of it, I’ve been out so much this year, compared to last. Most of the time with Fai-chan, of course <nyaa =^-^=>. Still, there’s another week of yummy buffets to ‘raid’, and I’ve yet to hear any high school/primary school buka puasa reunion plans (hope they didn’t forget to call me >_<). No confirmation yet on buka puasa with Tiff and Fish either.

Oh well, think I’ll just worry about the weekend for now. Have to make plenty of trips to the pasar tani for ketupat and rendang orders, the grocer, PKNS for misc food and clothes, and Masjid India for cloth. And of course, lots of cleaning in between. There’s gonna be a lot of trash coming out of the house the next few days. ^_^;

And I still haven’t picked up a new hard drive for the server. Gotta slot that in somehow. On the other hand, Fish and I will be ordering our soundcards from Newegg earlier than expected, to take advantage of a rebate offer. <3 cuzzies for helping us out. ^_^

macam-macam ada…

Server was constantly hanging this morning, right after I restarted my torrents after clearing some space on the drives. Further checks revealed that it hangs during an fsck check on one of the 250GB drives, so I might actually have some bad sectors on it. Sigh, guess I’ll have to get another drive and move stuff over before it dies completely.

Gold Coast post is finally up. See previous post. ^_^ The pictures are supposed to be thumbnails, but somehow WPG2 decided to show the mid size versions instead. They’ve been scrunched in to fit the theme, but oh well, just click on em to see how it’s supposed to look like. Can’t add captions either, cuz G2’s edit photo options aren’t working somehow.

The visual editor for WordPress seems to be working fine again. Co-authors, feel free to enable it again in your profile to give it a go.

I now have a second monitor plugged in, so that I can chat on MSN and WoW at the same time. WoW now runs in maximised windowed mode, so that my mouse can actually leave the WoW area onto the 2nd display. I lose some FPS, but hey, it’s worth it. ^_^

lament of the highborne

The exact origins of “Lament of the Highborne” have been lost to antiquity. Certainly the melody pre-dates the War of the Ancients, in which the song served as a lament for the fallen: a tribute to their steadfast bravery against overwhelming odds. Millennia later, the high elves of Quel’Thalas sang the lament, largely unaltered, in the Troll Wars. Here, too, the elves ultimately proved victorious, but they would not remain so. A plague of undeath swept through the human nation of Lordaeron in the Third War and converted many citizens into mindless undead minions of the Lich King. This army–the Scourge–invaded elven lands and decimated the populace, some of whom were raised into undeath and forced to join the Scourge.

As leader of the last elven defenders, Sylvanas Windrunner suffered a terrible fate: her spirit was ripped from her body and transformed into a banshee. When the Lich King’s power faltered, however, she and other undead were freed of Scourge control. She has since reclaimed her body and become queen of these undead rebels, the Forsaken. Although her heart is full of bitterness, she cannot forget the people she once loved… the kingdom she gave her life to defend.

fucked

Yes, I know it’s fasting month, but I’m so seriously pissed off.

Initially I thought my PSU was fucked, so I bought a new one to see if that helps. It didn’t. Using the process of elimination, I then extended the process to the less probably components, and that led me to my RAM.

Two pieces of 1GB Crucial Ballistix RAM, will no longer allow the computer to boot. Okay, no worries. I’ll just send them all the way back to the US for replacements. In the meantime, I’ll just borrow half of Mario’s RAM, which was 2x 512MB KVRs.

So usually when a computer dies, it’s usually one component that’s the problem. With that in mind, I plugged everything back into the original PSU and wallah, everything was fine and dandy.

But my success was shortlived, after sending my computer back onto S3 standby mode. After a few times, it too won’t boot up. Another fucking round of elimination showed that now I have another 2 bad pieces of RAM. Even worse, my hard drive can’t be detected either.

So all in all, i have lost 2 pieces of performance RAM, 2 pieces of value RAM, 1 power supply and possibly 1 hard drive. Add one more power supply that i replaced earlier, and you have a whole lot of fucking failed pieces of equipment. And I still don’t know what’s causing it! Of course, all the signs point back to the PSU, cuz how else can components be instantly corrupted besides static and power fluctuations? But after this episode, I’m just not so sure of myself anymore… I might even come to hate computers… >_<

wiring problems?

so this morning, my bro’s schoolmate’s home caught fire. twice. 1st time the switchbox went aflame. later, a surge somehow created another spark in the master bedroom.

reason: old wiring.

back in my home, i had to recently replace the server’s PSU with a new Powerlogic 500W. and a few days ago the new PSU itself started giving symptoms of irregularity.

yesterday, my gaming machine won’t wake up from S3 mode. shrugging it off, i powercycled the PSU and all was OK. FPS was low during WoW raids, but i didn’t think much of it.

today, the same thing happened, but the machine never recovered. wouldn’t even start the POST sequence. tried switching around my motherboard, as well as other components, but nothing. looks like another PSU problem.

should i be worried and get my wiring checked? we seem to have had at least 2 trips in the past 2-3 months. :O

and it sux that i can’t even play katamari damacy tonight cuz i haven’t burnt myself a copy. >_<

misc

Sorry guys, the Gold Coast update will have to come this weekend, since I haven’t picked up the 2 Gigs of pictures from Fish yet. And I can’t quite remember what our dinner plans were…

Anyways, a misc update of everything:-

Only being able to watch 1/4 of Memoirs of a Geisha on the plane, I watched the rest of it back home. Such a sweet, happy ending! Glad I watched it. 🙂 Aaaa Chiyo-chan~

I’m no longer holding 2 positions. Got a transfer letter back to my old post on the Monday I returned. *wonders what management is up to*. You could say I’m glad, but not in its entirety. Was pretty sure I could’ve contributed much more. At the expense of my brain cells, but nonetheless…

Caught up with Fish the day after his return from New Zealand. Another boarder-junkie has joined our midst! Hopefully that trip to Melbourne next year will become a reality. 😀 Wonder if Merv will want to join us… Well Fish didn’t manage to do the 100m Queenstown bungie though, only a 47m one. But it’s ok, we’ll just have to go there again and do it! w00t!

Will be going to Singapore in November for Linkin Park. Mom didn’t like the idea, cuz it was a weekday and everything, but it would’ve helped if she told me before we booked tickets. 🙁 E-mails should be replied! Anyways, what’s done is done. Sorry, mom.

WoW news: Personal FTK on Karathress. Morogrim is a bitch. We’re almost there on Leotheras. Have started arena-ing. It’s actually quite fun. Of course, being a holy priest means everyone will try to kill me first. Oh noes.

Have started playing BF 2142 again. Lowest video settings at highest resolution seems to help the graphics latency a bit. Merv has overtaken me on the leaderboard. Bugger.

Few more movies to watch:- Pathfinder, Apocalypto.
