downtime

ah, something tripped the power at the apartment while i was out, and i forgot to tell the folks to turn the server back on after they reset the circuit braker.

this happened when i went out with fish for dinner. we were planning a budget dinner, not more than rm20 per person, but ended up going to sushi king at section 14. we took our time and had a great meal, getting 2 temaki’s free from a promotion (buy 1 get 1 free). the unagi temaki is classic, whereas the sake kawa temaki was crunchy and dry. almost like a soft shell crab, but not quite.

the bill came to a surprising rm35. i didn’t realise it at first, but after recounting items in the car, it turns out they forgot to include the temaki’s. well, lucky us. 🙂

after that was continuation of mahjong, which we started halfheartedly due to a korean movie being played on the dvd player (please teach me english). then, supposedly, holy hour started and i started winning. 😛

anyways, for james: 2x 7950GX2 vs 1x 8800GTX. seems that SLI isn’t an upgrade path.. *ponders*. anyways just google it and you’ll find lotsa discussions abt it.

liquid fire

the title of this post sure sounds cool, but it really is related to a stomach ache. 😛

must’ve been the food last night. we bought back nasi goreng padprik ayam and prawn tom yam to merv’s place last night. was there playing mahjong up till 12.30am.

or could’ve been lunch, where i had nasi lemak rendang meant for breakfast. 😛

or maybe the dinner the night before, an old timer at chili’s. nah.

tummy still hurts even after numerous trips to the loo. need some tea, but water’s still boiling.

anyways, i mentioned in the scratch board earlier that my domain, bangsar.net, is being forged by spammers. seems that there’s nothing i can do about it, except hope that spam blocking lists will be smart enough to block the spammer’s sending IP instead of the forged domain.

on the other hand, it means that the domain is getting somewhat popular. we’re at google pagerank 5 now. 😛

sunday, day of salmon

another weekend is over. 🙁

starts of on Friday night with a yum char session at Kelana Jaya with Az and Andy (ribena lychee besar). passed Az his baton, which we found was too heavy to stun or inflict pain. instead, it seemed more appropriate to cause injury. :O

Saturday started with Khalil’s wedding, just down the road from my place (briyani). then Fish came over in the afternoon to return a keyboard and pick up some stuff off my archives. then it was time to pick up Khairil from class, so Fish and I headed out to PJ New Town for tea (maggi goreng). Had a light dinner with my mom at Section 14 at this nice place called Kemaman Kopitiam (french toast w/ ice cream) after having to wait 20 minutes for me to finish Grandia 3.

Sunday is salmon day! met up with eug, vincent, szetho & steph (hot!) for lunch at Marmalade in Mont Kiara (spaghetti smoked salmon + day starter blended juice). had fun reminiscing about the good old IRC days, as well as messing around with andy’s rear end via PTT. adjourned to coffee been with another 2 of eug’s friends, james and elena (hot!) (berry’d treasure). listened to lame jokes and went ‘awwww’ at tiff’s kiddie pic in Juice.

evening saw me at Taylor’s ADP building, at the office of GlenEaglesIntan Healthcare Concept. did a quick free no obligation health check, and got counseled on my inactive lifestyle. managed to skip the part where they started selling their healthcare packages. which sound good actually.. with comprehensive checkups yearly and MRIs and all that. i’d prolly sign up if i had lots of spare cash.

anyways, here’s me:-

  • height 172cm
  • weight 51.1kg (ooh, it’s up. or probably the weight of my pants, phone, and wallet)
  • blood pressure
    • systolic 104 mmHg (low)
    • diastolic 69 mmHg (low)
    • pulse 79 pulse/min (normal on the high side)
  • % body fat 19.8% (normal) non-visible fat mind you
  • visceral fat level 2 (low)
  • biological age 18 yrs
  • asian BMI 18.1 (underweight obviously. altho just slightly)
  • basal metabolic rate 1313 kcal
  • % skeletal muscle percentage 34.5% (normal)
  • glucose level 6.1 (normal)

so i’m pretty much normal. ‘cept for the lack of activity. gotta keep reminding myself to walk up the stairs every day.

anyways, my mom and bro tagged along just in case i got scammed or robbed (the place seemed deserted and somewhat dodgy) and my mom was the one who managed to bail me out before the sales pitch. after that we just went over to a nearby restaurant called Restoran Salmon Steak, where i had… grilled salmon steak. my bro could probably cook the same, but the prices were reasonable for their western menu.

and half an hour ago merv called me out to a&w. brr.. i think i’ll pass. i could really use the sleep.

back from the jungle

hie people! i just got back yesterday afternoon from Raub. it was swell. really really swell.

firstly, i got to see relatives i haven’t seen in YEARS! all my uncles and aunts and cousins from my dad’s side, not to mention my 90 year old grandpa who doesn’t seem to remember me. 😛 it was great being able to catch up with my cousins, without any awkward feelings (it was before, as i wouldn’t know what on earth to talk about). but anyways, all the males on this side are the strong silent type. you can see all of us hanging out in the living room but not saying a single word. 😛

except when we’re having fun of course, like when discussing exciting topics over the dinner table or playing pingpong at Ayah Da’s house only 500m away from my grandpa’s.

then there was the food! god, i was stuffed with food throughout my two nights stay there. yummy spicy kampung food which my mom wouldn’t cook becuz my siblings cannot tahan pedas. the only i regret was not being able to try the rendang landak (i.e. porcupine rendang) Mak Long brought over while we were playing pingpong. and no ikan patin masak tempoyak either. 🙁

Raub is a small town still surrounded by dense jungle. Ayah Da built his place right at the edge, so there are always monkeys coming out onto the streets. at night, you can hear all sorts of noises coming from the jungle. sometimes the animals stray and you hear things crawling or jumping on the roof. i think they’re monkeys. i hope.

so here i am back in modern civilization. with my astro, and my computer, and my ps2. there wasn’t much to do back at Raub. except eat, chat, nap, read newspapers, pingpong, and watch analog tv. a lot of napping. not much chatting. there was, but not much. khairil, on the other hand, had lots of fun playing and running around with his kiddie cuzzies.

anyways, last day before work! gonna keep this ps2 on till midnight!
